Palácio de Seteais by night

Sleeping like Royalty at Palácio de Seteais

In Portugal, its name is synonymous with luxury. The 5-star Palácio de Seteais hotel, often referred to merely as Seteais (because, really, there’s only one Seteais worth knowing), is renowned not only for its elegance but also its reputation. If my last post on Sintra convinced you to visit this beautiful town, here’s why you need to treat yourself to a stay in Seteais when you get there.

I love visiting castles and palaces (and deciding which of the 10 bedrooms I want when I move in) as much as the next person, but how often do you actually get to sleep in a real life palace? When the sight-seeing is over for the day, instead of just going back to your boring hotel room, wouldn’t it be heavenly to go to your own 18th century palace for dinner and a good night’s sleep?

I stayed in Seteais for one night only and it was an absolutely lovely experience. How do I love thee, Seteais? Let me count the ways…

I love thy sights: From Seteais I could see the Castelo dos Mouros and the Palácio da Pena on the hill above us, particularly beautiful when it’s lit up at night. From the pool you can see the Palácio da Pena above and the expanse of the Serra de Sintra stretch out below you. You can admire the lemon orchard or stroll in the neatly-trimmed garden.

I love thy service: The hotel staff is extremely polite, courteous and friendly. They will advise you on the best wine to have with your meal and keep you entertained during your meal with a live pianist. They really go the extra mile for their guests – I really can’t imagine anyone having any complaints about the service here.

I love thy decor: Full of old-world charm, the hotel is an aesthetic delight. Hand-painted walls, antique furniture, and large chandeliers.

I love thy food: From their home-made ice tea to their highly-addictive bar snacks, from fine wines to their lavish breakfast, it’s easy to indulge a little too much when you stay at this 5-star hotel.
